Justin Chan, MD

Dr. Justin Chan was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He attended the University of California, San Diego where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, cum laude, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa National Honors Society. He stayed in San Diego to earn his Doctor of Medicine degree at UCSD. After medical school, Dr. Chan moved to Chicago, Illinois, and completed his Internship and Orthopaedic Residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Finally, Dr. Chan completed a sub-specialty fellowship in Hand Surgery at the world- renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Chan was the Orthopaedic Specialty Manager at the UCSD Free Clinic, where he helped underserved patients understand their conditions for the first time. In addition, Dr. Chan was honored with an award in the University Health Consortium Patient Satisfaction Rankings during his time in Chicago.

Dr. Chan returns to San Diego with a desire to share the knowledge and training he has received from the best institutions in the country to the people of San Diego County. He believes that the core of patient care is educating the patient on the cause of their symptoms and improving patient understanding of their courses of treatment.

Dr. Chan has presented several of his grants and research projects at national meetings. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. During his free time, Dr. Chan enjoys music, surfing, and hiking with his wife and two dogs.
