Robert I. Gelb, MD, FAAOS

Robert I. Gelb, MD, FAAOSDr. Gelb was born in New York, New York and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, Cum Laude, in 1975 from State University of New York at Buffalo. In 1980 he received his Medical Degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. For the next six years, he completed anĀ  Internship in Surgery and a Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York. In addition, Dr. Gelb completed a post-graduate Fellowship in Hand Surgery under the direction of James M. Hunter, MD at Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia from 1985 to 1986.

Dr. Gelb moved to North San Diego County in 1986 and has been treating orthopaedic injuries and disorders, particularly those of the hand and upper extremity, for over 20 years. His is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery as well as the National Board of Medical Examiners as an active licensed, Qualified Medical Examiner. Dr. Gelb is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, New York Medical College Alumni Association, Jefferson Hand Club, Jefferson Medical College Alumni Association, California Medical Association, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, San Diego County Medical Society, Scripps Hospital Community Advisory Board, Ximed Medical Group and the Western Orthopaedic Association.

In addition, Dr. Gelb sits on the Professional Conduct Committee of the San Diego County Medical Society and acts as a Consultant for the Medical Review and Advisory Committee for the State of California Medical Board. Dr. Gelb also enjoys serving as a mentor for local high school students, giving them the opportunity to view surgeries and observe him in the clinic seeing patients.
