Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections are a new, innovative approach for the treatment of orthopaedic conditions. PRP has been used to treat musculoskeletal conditions such as:
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections involve obtaining a small amount (10cc’s) of the patient’s blood with a small needle. The blood is put into a centrifuge and the plasma is separated from the whole blood. The separated PRP is then injected into the region of clinical concern. The entire process takes less than 30 minutes.
The injection of PRP into the injured tissue concentrates one’s own cells, which are used by the body for healing. By using a concentration of the patient’s own plasma, the healing process may be expedited.
With a growing demand in our community, CORE Orthopaedic Medical Center is now performing PRP injections in our office. This technique has been popularized by professional athletes, who desire a quick return to their sport without the use of drugs or surgery. Results have been promising and we are excited to offer another option to patients without the use of surgery, drugs, or cortisone injections.
Xiaflex is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with Dupuytrens contractures. Xiaflex collagenase is an enzyme derived from the bacterium clostridum histolticum that hydrolyzes the collagen cords causing the cords to cleave into fragments and rapidly dissolve/degrade. Xiaflex is currently the only FDA approved collagenase on the market.
Viscosupplementation is an injection that is used to treat osteoarthritis, particularly of the knee. The injection aids in the lubrication of your joint, helping decrease pain and increase function. There are various types of viscosupplementation, but the contents of each type consist of substances that are naturally found in healthy joints. Your physician will help you decide which type is best for you.
